Surf’s up! Perfect waves today!
We are a small, surf travel agent, with 8 years experience, booking a selected range of quality independent accommodation. We can find you most accommodation from clean and simple, locally owned guest houses to luxury surf villas and catamaran cruises.
For the winter season 2019 – 2020 we are recommending our home village Gurubebila and the areas between Weligama and Midigama. We believe this area gives you the best range of surf breaks, vibe, local restaurants and accommodation away from the busy A2 main road. We have experimented booking for the rest of the coast we but unless you want a Luxury Villa we just can’t guarantee your stay will be as good.
Surf South Sri Lanka will organise your stay with anything you might want for your dream surf holiday. Whether you are in a group, couple, family or solo please get in touch with your plan and we will do our best to fix it for you.
We have a great range of carefully selected and trusted friends accommodation, very close to the main surf points, some exclusive to us. There is instant booking for budget accommodation, and for the higher end places we have a villa black book of some really nice ‘pools on the points’. Keep in touch on social media, and we will let you know about some cool events and activities as they happen.
Check out one of our favorite our guest houses Ketature Beach House for example, a super family run guest house on the coast away from the main beach road. Walking distance to Jungle Beach & Coconuts. Some good availability in Feb to April 2019. Budget but luxury by location.
Our base in Gurubebila Village
Surf South Sri Lanka HQ is based in rural Gurubebila Village between Midigama and Weligama, in the south west of Sri Lanka. It’s a quiet village with a great surf culture, you get really get to hang local. Catch some fish for the BBQ, join the cricket team, or relax with a Lion beer and watch another epic sunset. It is a perfect location for you to get to many of the best southern surf points and without the package tourist crowds and the noise of the main A2 road.
Our local beach, Gurubebila, hosts two surf breaks Plantation Point and Coconut Point. Clean waves hold to 6ft on a good day, classic A-frame with peeling left and right from a reef point break, 450m rides.
The Midigama-Weligama area caters for all surfing abilities, with a 2km beginners Beach Break only 3km away and Lazy Left and Jungle Beach intermediate reefs in walking distance. Some lovely drone footage of, Gurubebila local hero Anil Benjo surfing Coconuts. Massive credit to ML★ for this!
When to come?
The official peak surf season in the south-west, around Weligama, is from the end of October to early April. Winds are offshore making clean waves, swells are consistently good and rain is at a minimum. The season then shifts up the south east coast towards Arugum Bay from April. Outside the official surfing season you still get some fantastic days in the water. For beginners Weligama is perfect all year round for learning to surf. For luxury accommodation always advisable to book early, especially over Christmas & New Year, for the rest we will most probably be able to find you something, there are some great new and revamped places for 2018-19.
Please get involved in social and the independent Facebook and Instagram community tags, we are on our Facebook page for updates from our side.
